Accounting

What is Accounting?

As they have been for centuries, accountants today are involved in collecting, summarizing and communicating financial information. Accounting information remains an important and flexible tool for the support of investment analysis and management decision-making. But the roles and responsibilities of today's accountants are far broader and more challenging than those of even a few years ago. Today, accountants play a key role in the management and operation of business, government and not-for-profit entities serving as financial analysts, consultants and planners.

Why study Accounting?

An accounting degree is often referred to as "the one degree with 360 degrees of freedom." The broad range of knowledge that accountants obtain about organizations' operations and how those operations impact achievement of organization goals provides them with an extensive range of career opportunities. For example, accountants may become partners in CPA firms--or FBI agents, Chief Financial Officers of major corporations--or Real Estate developers, Chief Executive Officers--or entrepreneurs.
