Section 205 in Title II of the Higher Education Act, as amended in 2008, requires each state receiving funding under the Act to report annually on the quality of teacher preparation in the state.

 Impact on P-12 Learning/Development

Since 2014, our EPI Score Report has met and exceeded the State of Michigan cut scores, based on surveys, MTTC results, and effectiveness labels.

 Teacher Effectiveness

From 2014-2017, 94% of program completers had an Educator Effectiveness rating of "Effective" or higher.

 Employer Survey Results

Based on an MTU initiated survey of hiring principals, 100% indicated they would rehire MTU completers if given the chance again.

 Completer Survey Results

MTU Education Program completers cite program strengths as the emphasis on student engagement, lesson planning, various approaches to topics, small classes with excellent discussion, caring professors, and strong content knowledge.

From 2014-2017, the MTU Teacher Education program completion rate was 81.8%.

 Licensure Test Pass Rate

From 2014-2017, the MTU teacher candidate pass rate on the MTTC exam was 93.5%, with 9 of the 10 areas of certification at 100%.

From 2014-2017, 100% of completers seeking employment in education secured positions.

Average secondary school teacher salary in Michigan in 2017 is $61,410, in the U.P. is $54,990, and nationally is $58,030.  MTU's university-wide 3-year student loan default rate is 2% (national average is 11.5%).
